Lash Cleansing, the most important step to your service

As a lash artist, you want your clients to have beautiful, long-lasting lash extensions, or the highest lash lift possible.  However, this cannot be achieved if their natural lashes are not properly cleansed before the service. Here are some reasons why cleansing lashes before a service is important:

1. Removes oil and dirt

Our natural lashes produce oil and can accumulate dirt and dust throughout the day. If these oils and dirt are not removed before a lash service, it can affect the bond between the natural lash and the extension. This can result in premature shedding of the extensions and a shorter retention time.

2. Ensures a clean surface for the adhesive

A clean surface is crucial to ensure a strong bond between the natural lash and extension. Any leftover makeup residue or oils can weaken the bond and cause the extensions to fall off prematurely.

3. Prevents eye infections

Unclean lashes can harbor bacteria and increase the risk of eye infections. This is especially important for clients who wear makeup and do not remove it properly. Cleansing the lashes before a service ensures that any bacteria or germs are removed, reducing the risk of infection.

4. Improves the overall appearance of the extensions Removing any buildup can make the lashes look fuller and healthier, which can enhance the final result of the lash extensions.

Cleansing the lashes before a lash lift is equally important as it is for lash extensions. In fact, it is even more important because during a lash lift, the natural lashes are lifted and curled, exposing more surface area of the lash. This means that any oils or dirt on the lashes can affect the curl and lift, causing it to fall flat and not hold its shape.

Additionally, during a lash lift, a perming solution is applied to the natural lashes to help them hold their shape. If the lashes are not properly cleansed, the solution may not be able to penetrate the lashes properly, resulting in an uneven or weak curl.

Furthermore, if there is any residue on the lashes, it can mix with the perming solution and cause irritation or discomfort during the treatment. It can also affect the longevity of the lift and cause the lashes to shed prematurely.

Both lash extensions and lash lifting services will benefit from proper aftercare, which includes using a gentle ph balanced lash cleanser to keep them clean.  The cleanser you choose should also be oil free, as to not disturb lash retention or cause a lift to drop.
Personally, we love the Elleebana makeup removing cleanser at our service backbar and to send home with our clients, as it is extension and lash lift safe!
